Writing Contest Rules
We here at the Write Stuff are interested in starting up a little competition to show off your skills, and we’re going to do it through a writing contest. Here’s how it works:
Every so often, we’re going to throw a competition, and we’re inviting everyone to participate. To compete, simply write an article or an essay that corresponds to the prompt you’re given and send it off to us with a donation of $5.
At the end of the submission period, three impartial judges will rate your articles and determine at least one winner for the competition, and possibly more depending on the total prize pool (that $5 you donated before).
All winners chosen will have their work published in a book that will come out at the end of the year, showcasing their work, along with the works of many of the runners-up.
All proceeds from the sale of this book, as well as 5% of the total prize pool for each contest, will be donated to the Children’s Literacy Fund, a charity organization which educates young people and teaches them how to read and write. The remaining 95% of the prize pool will be disbursed evenly among the winners. All Winners and Honorable Mentions from these competitions will receive, in the mail , a certificate commemorating their work.
Rules:
Anyone is eligible to apply, regardless of age or country of origin. Please do not submit multiple entries by the same author. Two or more authors living under the same roof will be allowed to participate.
Essays will be judged on creativity, expressiveness, and the passion of the author. To have the best chance of winning, make sure your piece is grammatically correct, well-written, and unique.
Prizes are subject to change based on the number of total submissions and the quality of the work submitted. Judges will make the necessary arrangements and changes based on the number of submissions at the time their review takes place.
-
Prizes will be paid by Paypal or personal check upon the final decision of the judges. Notifications to the winners will be sent prior to releasing payment to confirm payment details.
-
Essays submitted to us for the purpose of this competition should be 100% original, and not plagiarized in any way. These should also be unique submissions, meaning that if you have submitted this essay to a scholarship organization or to a magazine, it may not be resubmitted again.
-
All submissions should be written in English.
-
By submitting your essays or articles, you agree to allow us the right to publish this content in your name on our website and in the book we will release at the end of the competition. You will retain all other rights to the work.
-
If you wish to submit a picture along with your article, you may, provided that you own all copyrights on that image, or the image is in the public domain.
-
All articles must be submitted by 12 midnight CST on the final date of the competition. Regrettably, essays sent after this time may be disregarded.
-
We would prefer that submission of your article take place on the internet using our secure form, with donations made by Paypal. If you wish to mail in your donation, please make checks payable to Robert Watson and send your check, cash or money order, along with a diskette containing your submission, to:
The Write Stuff
P.O. Box 41

Regrettably, we can not, at this time, accept paper copies of your work.
So, do you have the write stuff? Competitions will likely begin this fall. Be ready.
